These places are home. You drive pass them daily. They are part of your routine. They are permanent fixtures in the landscape of the city you love. These structures have a history. They have a story. Help us share it.
This Place Matters is a national campaign encouraging community members to speak up for the places that are most meaningful to them and their communities. Preservation Oklahoma launched the campaign locally to assist Oklahomans in sharing their sense of place by raising awareness of a community’s historic resources.
Since 2009, This Place Matters campaigns have taken place in Newkirk, Muskogee, Alva, Cherokee, Durant and Sulphur. In 2010, Preservation Oklahoma co-branded the program with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s This Place Matters campaign.
Campaign participants are encouraged to attend live launches of the campaign as well as travel to various Oklahoma cities and towns. The conversation is then shared online through Preservation Oklahoma’s official social media pages encouraging online supporters to also rally for historic structures.
